Because dreams are stored in temporary memory part of our brain. Informations stored there last for 10-20 minutes, whereas in permanent memory they can last for Your whole lifetime.
Dreams are, in fact, discharging of burdened parts of the brain, and the temporary memory is used as a buffer for releasing the charge to the sight and hearing centres of the brain. Charges only pass through the memory and cannot be stored for a long time. Only in cases that the dream has made a signifcant impression to the dreamer, a part of a dream is moved to the permanent memory, as to a condenser for storing supercharges.

I have dreams and sometimes I remember when something relative to the dream comes up. I've had four dreams in 3 days, and If I think about them alot right when I wake up, I remember better. you have to really focus on them and think about it.
I can even wake up and decide to go right back to sleep again if I choose, and continue to dream my cool dreams.

You can train yourself to remember them if you put a pen a paper by your bed, and everytime you wake up, record everything you remember.
