I live 5 minutes from Busch Gardens. A lot of the hotels are great, Best Western offers a FREE, HOT Country Breakfast and is a great choice. Still for value...
The Clarion on Fowler used to be the Holiday Inn, if you stay, try NOT to eat the TGI Friday's onsite restaurant. (Bad idea for eating! but there a plenty of places, at least 5 to eat right next door/across the street)
Days Inn is not that best on the outside but it's clean and you can get a double-bed for like $59 usually, and there's a DENNY's onsite for breakfast, and Taco Bell which is right in the adjacent lot and Burger King is just across the street.
However, I if you need luxury I hhighly recommend Amerisuites also, it's right next to Doubletree but looks better and if you can get great online rate, it's rougly the same price.

I've read some of the answers, and Doubletree is not at all a bad choice. The hotel is beautiful, you're close to Busch Gardens, and you have good dining and shopping options nearby.
However, I do have one choice that I would recommend above Doubletree, if price is an option.
Extended Stay America, located at 12242 Morris Bridge Rd. in
Temple Terrace (roughly 3 miles further from Busch Gardens) has rooms that are just as nice as Doubletree, including a kitchen, for literally half the price.
The only drawback is that it DOES NOT have a pool or courtyard like Doubletree does. But, if you're planning on not spending very much time in the hotel, and you want to save a bundle of money, then Extended Stay America is your better bet.
Based on Doubletree's website at http://www.doubletree.com/ a 1-person stay at the property on North 30th Street on July 29th-July30th will cost you $139.00 per night.
Based on Extended Stay's website at http://www.extendedstay.com/ a 1-person stay at the property on Morris Bridge Road just off of Fletcher on July 29th-30th will cost you $63.00 per night, provided you book the room online.
If you do decide to book the Extended Stay room, one word of advice...........First, make sure you have any pop-up blockers on your web browser turned off. Then, start booking the room. While doing so, before you finalize the reservation, close the web browser window. You will get a pop-up asking you not to leave, and that they will take a FURTHER $10.00 off on your room rate if you click on the return button in the pop-up.
So, you'll wind up getting your room for $53.00 instead of $63.00. Nice deal, eh?
Lastly, make sure you leave yourself an extra day to go to the beach.
When you do, make sure to hit either Pass-A-Grille on St. Pete Beach, North Beach at Ft. DeSoto County Park, or Pier 60 at Clearwater Beach (preferrably between the hours of (6 PM - 9 PM). Trust me. You WON'T be disappointed.

There are several hotels really close to Busch Gardens--but take a look at hotels on www.expedia.com or one of those sites & you can take your pick. We recently went to Busch Gardens and stayed in Clearwater Beach (Sand Key) very child/family friendly--but a bit of a drive. Enjoy!

doubletree hands down. i was there for the same reason. it is inexpensive, clean, most of the rooms are suites (same price), and the pool is small, but beautiful. also, it is in a pretty nice area, and there are restuarants and other things just a couple of blocks away.

Hi Magnolia -
I would recommend this website http://www.utopia.worldventures.com to compare prices.
What this website does is search dozens of the top websites (Travelocity,Orbitz, Expedia, etc...) and post all their prices. Real good tool that saves me time when booking my business travel
