I think as long as you pay attention to your surroundings, you can just about travel anywhere by yourself.
If you are staying at the resorts, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.
It is probably much more dangerous to be in L.A. or N.Y. by yourself than in Jamaica.
Pay attention, and enjoy every minute of it.

While i would consider it safe to travel alone, i think the experience would be better if you had someone to share it with. I am from Jamaica and sometimes while i am on business trips etc it is no fun as there aint no one to laugh with if you haerd a funny story or nuthing. It's cool to come down here by your friends as you maybe find someone to keep you company depends on where u stay but for more info on great hotel stay etc you can mail me i'll fill u in.

I just came back from Negril and while it's beutiful and the locals are very friendly. I would not want to travel there alone, heck I wouldn't want to travel anywhere out of country alone. It's not safe really. You really need to have your gaurd up the whole time and it wouldn't be that enjoyable. Jamica is great but the locals can be very pushy and agressive...I would find a friend to share the experience with.

I've heard of many unpleasant experiences that tourists have encountered while touring in Jamaica. Many tourists are ambushed by locals while horseback riding, ATV riding and even in vehicles. One client of mine narrowly missed being ambushed while driving a Jeep on his own. He came across a dead dog lying across the road and when he got out to move it he saw several men hiding in the bushes nearby. He quickly got back into the Jeep and escaped by running the dog over. If you want to go outside of the resort, check with the resort guest relations for their recommendations on an organized tour. Their reputations are on the line when you put the responsibility on them so they will be cautious when it comes to your safety. I would stay away from self guided activities. You might also pick a resort that has alot of amenities. this would give you less of a reason to go outside.

Depends where your staying and what you intend to do, If you are not going to Kingston and are not doing alot of night traveling, you should be ok. you don't want to get caught outside your resort or belone in places, by your self. as you would not want to get caught in the states in major citys left alone. This place is safer than the states, but like the states you have to use common since, and street smarts.

I echo what Moglie said. Good advice in the fewest possible words.
One more thing; get good travel medical insurance. If you get ill or have an accident, you want to be able to SELECT where you receive care. Go to http://www.wavehelp.com/travel-medical/index.htm and click on the little red phone booth to read about "Worldwide Health" insurance. You can buy on-line there too if you want to.
Best wishes.

It's probably like going anywhere alone. Stay in an all inclusive resort,if you must venture out do not go alone, get to know others and make it a group thing, go on guided tours.

It can be.
But if you do go alone you will have to be extra vigilant, being in a strange land, alone.
I think you can safely, I am sure people do it all the time.
