OK, here's what I'm looking for: my brother's three, so I need a frog or toad that's durable, easy to take care of, and easy to find if lost. So probably something large and colorful that won't hop away when being handled. Just give me the name and I'll google it. Remember: think of something that can't escape easily from its cage or your hands, something that's on a large scale, something that's colorful (non-poisonous, please! No cane/marine toads!) and can withstand the constand handling and examining of a three year old. Just remember those things and think of the best answer. Real imporant! Thanks!

Amphibians as a whole are not durable and do NOT do well being handled regularly. The oils and chemicals on your hands can royally screw up their skin. Most are also pretty fragile and would not take well to being handled by a 3 year old... Best just to look at them.
That being said, White's treefrogs are pretty hardy, and not too active when handled. If you want something easy to care for and colorful, go with a pacman frog, though they can be aggressive (mainly just an overblown food response, if you handle them a little bit from a young age they won't be near as bad), best not to mess with them too much.
If you want something that is definitely handleable, go with a leopard gecko, hamster, hermit crab, snake, etc...

I hate to burst your bubble, but frogs and toads are some of the worst possible pets. They NEVER calm down, and will ALWAYS run for freedom. They also have to have a cage with substantial standing water and a way to get onto land again. They also have to be fed every 2-3 days, have their water changed out weekly because they poop in it, and need a heat lamp on one end of the cage to stay warm or they could die in the winter if they get to cold and can't digest food. Their entire lives are controlled by the temperature.
If you want a reptile, I would personally suggest a one or two year old corn snake. By that age they are about three feet long, and can handle kids without problems. Amelanistic corn snakes are bright red with orange and white highlights and Butter corns are bright yellow. They required a Ten gallon terrarium with a heat lamp on one end, a thing to hide under, a sturdy water dish, and about an inch of Aspen bedding, NOT PINE OR CEDAR. Pine and Cedar gives off oils that irritates all reptile and amphibians skin, kinda like when you get a rash and are constantly scratching it. You have to feed them one dead mouse, which can be purchased at most pet stores, once every two weeks.
The other suggestion is a ball python. You can find both at www.reptileauctions.com . You can also find some frogs and toad there. My other suggestion is to go to a pet store, find something you like, and handle it. If it stays calm and sits in your hands and maybe explores around, it's a good pet. If it bites while you hold it, or tries to run from you, try a different one, even if it's the same species. Also ask the people there on what they suggest. King snakes would also be wise pets and are great when small. Most pet store animals, no matter what age, usually won't bite, so any size animal will be good.
No matter what you get, you HAVE to get a book that tells you what you need to have and do to take care of it. It will be much easier taking care of any lizard, snake, frog, or toad you could possibly get.
