No, America is not a great nation anymore.
1. We are getting more and more dependent on foreign oil. No one is bothered by using our military might to secure these resources rather than inventing new ways of using energy.
2. We have become a closed, stupid, bigotted, religiously fundamentalist society with a theocracy for a government. The current president can't look at facts and recalculate plans, he prays to the Jesus of dry alcoholics instead. His deputy is another drunk driver. What blunders they have made! And the populace puts up with it or supports their unAmerican would-be tyrrany. Bad sign for the country, very bad sign. Their superstitious solution is to great a great shooting war in the near East because that will bring Jesus back to earth!! Insane.
3. More Americans work in finance, insurance, real estate than in manufacturing. We shuffle papers, insure each other, sell each other property and flip burgers rather than manufacture products --that's stagnation. And we are borrowing $2 billion EVERY DAY from overseas that we don't intend to pay back. And only 17% of our college graduates majored in hard sciences or engineering (as opposed to, say 52% of Chinese college graduates). Our future is one of economicly shrinking stagflation.
4. We have about a $12 trillion economy. Medicare owes $66 trillion, social security $11 trillion, the prescription drug plan $8 trillion, federal pensions about $10 trillion, and various federal guarantee programs $10 to $30 trillion. Our whorish politicians have made too many promises -- we're going to have to break some of them --especially -- we are going to have to sunset Medicare (the sooner the better!). Did you know this? If you DON'T know these bookkeeping facts, you probably think America is still a great nation.
It isn't. We're broke. Washington lied to you.

America is still a great nation, because you have the opportunity to seek your own happiness. You have rights in this country like no other. You can go anywhere (any state or city) without question. It is your choice where you go here. There are jobs, although many do go overseas, and are taken by illegal immigrants. You can say anything you want to! That is a free nation. The poverty level in many other countries is really bad. If you don't believe this is still a great country, go somewhere else for a while to see for yourself. Try the Philippines, or Mexico.
There are a host of great countries, and America is one of them!

I think it is a question of culture:
I think Ancient Egypt was a great nation. Then the Assyrian Empire was great. Then the Bible says that the Babylonian empire was the greatest that ever had been or ever shall be. Then there was the MedoPersian Empire, then Greece and then the Roman Empire. If Babylon was the greatest, then America is somewhere down below Egypt.

Because there are lots of Jews in America and America cares for the tiny nation of Israel. God has said those who bless Israel I will bless and those who curse Israel he will curse. Genesis 12

I agree with amfound2. I firmly believe that as morally corrupt as our nation is, if we turn our backs on Israel, that will be the end of "our" greatness.
