the best time to check is in the shower cause with the soap you can feel every thing. i felt a small pea size lump about a inch from the nipple and it turned out to be cancer. i'm eight years cancer free. i had all the treatments. it is good to check your breast about once a month that way you will know when something feels different.

i recommend you do the self examination, lay on your back and put one arm above your head and use the other hand to kind of mash around the area of the breast and you should be able to feel lumps if they are present

The lumps in your chest will vary depending on your monthly period. It will feel spongy and soft. But you will no if there is a problems it will be very hard like a marble. That you don't want to feel.
