I have a running bet with my SIL's, who are a few years older than I, who say Journey is the bigger band. However, Def Leppard is not the opening act in the concert that is touring, Journey is headliner for Def Leppard.
Stating that Def Leppard is more popular/ desirable.

Sadly enough, Def Leppard is probably more popular. Popularity, however, is not always indicative of talent. Journey is a much better band than Def Leppard is or ever was. At least they were back in the day. Journey definitely makes better back up music for making out or whatever else you might feel inclined to do when the mood hits you.

Journey will always be the bigger of the two and they have had more no. 1's by double.
