Whenever I visit a page using these, they remain even after I leave the site. I do not want to just hide the icon in the tray, I want to close down the java system alltogether. And theres no right click > exit option...

Is there a way to shut down the java console, without restarting the browser (current way i know)?

Thanks in advance!

The console staying open seems a security risk, like leaving the site that started it creates a backdoor to my computer. ~ I know it probably dosent, but it seems fishy.

Dude, I just went through a similar thing. After extensive research on Sun's website, Microsoft's site, and numerous online tech forums, I could find no way to close down the Java console after it had opened for a site with applets or what have you. I contented myself with turning off the icons in the system tray.

I wish I had better news for you, but I haven't been able to solve this problem.
