Les Miserables by Victor Hugo is an incredibly amazing book. I am reading it for the second time. I love it dearly! It is a bit long and wordy, but the abridged version is very nice. It cuts out a lot of the random un-needed parts. Anyway, it's about the French Revolution, and the lives of people who live during that time, be it criminals and their stalker-like parole officers, lovers who are seperated by war, or desperate and dying prostitutes! Sounds awful, but it is SO beautiful and wonderfully written. There are also moments of sheer comedy thrown in. It's simply, in my opinion, the best book ever written. You will be crying so hard at the end!

Some humorous suspense books are The Cat Who series and Carol Higgins Clark's Regan Reilley series.

Sandra Brown, Heather Graham, Mariah Stewart and Nora Roberts write both romance and romantic suspense.

Some that are just suspense authors (I don't really know any horror, but the suspense books are usually murder mysteries, so that seems close) are Harlan Coben, Mary higgins Clark, Mary Jane Clark, James Patterson, etc.
