When you have a dull friend, it is best to encourage a wilder life and party going. Dull people do not actually enjoy life. Don't let a dull friend remain sober. People only regret what they have NOT done, not what the have done (which is usually very boring). I know, I am a dull person.

He does need to lighten up a bit. I mean, his name isn't even Johnny. He needs to see a therepist or get a better job. And I bet his familydoesn't appreciate him trying to murder them. That's what to much work can do to people.
