Make SURE the power is off, stick a long handled-thing in there and try to move it around. Yes, the reset is a circuit breaker, but if you have to keep re-setting it, that's no good. It's actually not hard to turn tha ring at the bottom of the disposal to get it out, and if it's not clogged up with an object, or too much of the same thing (like a whole watermelon rind, or two dozen egg shells), them the motor could be partially shorted out. BEWARE, it STINKS. Also, I hate garbage disposals as a husband and father, because I always have to work on them. I say use them minimally.

To confirm that it is most likely blocked, when you hit the switch to make it go on, can you hear a humming noise? If not than you tripped a breaker. The reset button is the first circut breaker, if it won't reset than you need to go to your breaker box and find the breaker that is tripped. To safetly clean it out without removing it, go to the breaker box, turn the breaker off that goes to the disposal, hit the switch in the kitchen where the disposal is to confirm there is no power (that you turned off the right breaker), use one of those clogged drain pressure devices ( $10-$15 at hardware store), and using water pressure blow it out of all food/water soluable items. than look inside for any non-soluable items, such as metal, glass, wood, etc... make sure to turn the breaker back on after it is clean, and see if that does the trick. Good luck.

Turn the water on, hit the reset and turn it on, if jammed it will humm, if so turn it off, clean everything out, and inspect with a flashlight for something jammed along the edge. Most often, A soda Can pop top, a bone, a Corn on the Cop pick- Should be a spot in the Center bottom for an Allen Wrench, one came with it , Gold color, if you don't have it, get one that fits- back the Disposal up, if no wrench, use a broom handle, inside to back it up Careful , not to force to hard.

If the disposal is stuck you can turn it by using a wrench which is connected to the bottom of the disposal and is made for this purpose. the reset button is like a circuit breaker and can be reset once you get it unstuck

Push the reset button. Always use lots of water when using the disposal. Never put grease down it. If it doesn't work, someone is going to have to ream out the pipe! My husband had to go under the house to get at it. Good luck!
