The myth is that the king of Malta in the 1500's gave a gold falcon to Charles V, King of Spain. The falcon was encrusted with priceless, precious stones. It was stolen by pirates and was never seen again. Fact or Fiction?

Actually, the dingus was sent by the Knights of St John (The Hospitallers) as payment to the Emperor Charles V, who had granted them Malta after their previous stronghold of Rhodes had fallen to the Turks. Supposedly it was lost to Barbary pirates along the way.

It's a great story, and a tremendous movie, and completely fiction.

I'm still trying to find it by looking at flea markets and on e-bay etc. When I actually find the real Maltese Falcon and not some replica I'll get back to you.

I am gonna be straight up with you on this one, I don't have a bloody clue, if it's fact or fiction, all I can base my opinion on is the movie, with Bogart, according to that, my assumption is, that it is fiction!......:)
