The sun goes through approximately 11 year cycles in brightness and the number of sun spots. Ask any amateur radio operator. We are at a low point right now in the number of sun spots (solar storms on the surface of the sun).

Previous responder's answer is not logical. The sun certainly is getting older, but that does not show that the thermonuclear reactions in its core are either slowing down or speeding up. Actually, there is some evidence that the sun is getting hotter. (Might be the cause of global warming!) But the evidence is clear that the sun's power level has not changed substantially in millions of years.
