There are a couple of options here.
One option is to head to the chat boards on eBay, find the one or ones appropriate to your question, and ask it there. There are lots of very intelligent people on these boards that know eBay better than anything else and they might have some good ideas.
The other is to search the eBay site and see what is selling well. Then see if you can't track the item down at a cost that is cheap enough that you can make a profit after shipping, managing and eBay fees.
The last option is to find places where you can buy stuff in large lots, check out their prices for the lot, break it down piece by piece so that you know what each would have to sell for, then check the site to see how well they sell and how much they sell for historically on the eBay site.
Hope that this helps.

I try to sell only things that I am familiar with, in case someone asks a question about the item or needs more info about it. As someone else said, try to keep the items you sell small, unbreakable, & light until you get good at packing and shipping.
Find a category that you like on ebay, do a search by price to see how stuff sells and what it brings, then have fun. I have decent success with things purchased from a craft store when they have a 90% off close out or end of season sale.

The smaller the better. We always charge for shipping, but it's still a pain in the butt on those larger items. We have sold quite a few old advertising items. Search your local antiques dealers for good buys. Also, check out the auction circuit. Make sure you know what you are buying.

I don't know what you have in your possession. Declutter the house. Get rid of antiques, old books a bookseller, collector may be wanting to add to the collection, clothes, stuff you might have a piece of toast that looks like the devil, a record player, vinyl records, Depends on what you have.
we have this cosignment shop in LA where they do the dealing for you.

Go to your local second-hand store, and clean them out. Sell it all, and then take the money you've made to go clean out other stores.
