Electricity heats up the water, turning it to steam. The steam rises and it is forced upwards through a tube. The steam condenses and forms droplets which fall on top of the coffee grounds. These hot drops of water mix with small particles of coffee grounds which fall downwards to the carafe.

With the home, water seeps through the grounds, and coffee is produced. It is heated in the carafe.
