There's some little "spouts" you put on the end of empty water bottles that you stick in the plant container's soil, We got them from a mail-order catalog, but they should be available somewhere near you. They seem to last at least two days depending on the humidity. Maybe you'll need more than one in each pot?

Mulch them about three or four inches deep. Then water really well before you leave. If you are going to be gone for more than a week you might ask a neighbor to water. If they are house plants you can put a bowl of water in the center of all the plants and run a string to each plant. That way the water will wick to the plants.

There is a medium you can buy at a home/garden store that can be mixed in with the soil to retain moisture. Additionally, you can add a layer of mulch on top - that will help retain moisture as well.

They sell gadgets for this at garden stores. Usually it is some sort of slow release water container. Shop around because they vary from store to store.

Cover them with clear plastic wrap so they make their own moisture or get a good neighbor - like I have - to water while you're gone.
