I'm not saying your homeland is necessarily the country you're currently living in. And basically when I say one billion dollars I mean a lot of money. I'm just interested in what appeals more to you: patriotic nationalism or greedy individualism? Do you think that it's good to look out for yourself rather than your country? Or do you think such people are traitors? Thanks for the help.

Yes, Shaker, perhaps I should have asked if you would commit a treasonous act against your homeland for a billion dollars. My wording for the question may have been a bit confusing.

Nooo! It would be too devastating for me to never see Sweden again! I like traveling, but I always want to be able to return home.

Your question accepts the possibility that one has ALREADY left their homeland. So, to accept money for a deed already done; no harm, no foul.
I think your question is based on some preconcieved notion, something like "I'd never abandon my country, not for a million dollars."
I think you are confusing treason with absence.
I can leave and never return, which is different than leaving because I've done wrong.

Perhaps the next question could be:
Would you commit treason or some heinous act against your country for money, if you could leave and never be tried for your act?

I don't understand how accepting 1 billion dollars equates to "greedy individualism", but I suppose that many people believe that money is the root of all evil so I'll play along. I'll easily accept the money. With the money I will be able to make many choices in life that I otherwise only be able to fanticize about. Some of my choices will be selfish choices, just as they are now, just on a grander scale. However, many more of them will benefit my new neighbors in some coffee producing country where I will own plantations. Just my slice of heaven on earth.

Well, I already left my homeland to come to America so I would have to say, heck yeah! For me the question would be if I had to leave the USA. I'd still yes. I could go to Australia, New Zealand, or somewhere else that is allied with America. Wouldn't be as good as living here but patriotism is more in your heart than in where you happen to live.

America is all about individualism - so of course I'd take the money and run! Plus, how does my country really gain from me staying here? I can still shop on the internet and buy from so-called American businesses. No American would call that person a traitor, it doesn't even come to mind. We're taught to think about ourselves, not others

I can do MORE FOR my homeland with a billion dollars even if I am
not living in it than I can living it with my current resources.

So, yes, in a heart beat.

Remember, loving something means being willing to sacrafice for it -
not just loving to be around it.

I would, but I would put the money to good use. Do you know how many orphanages and hospitals you can build in really poor areas of the world with a billion dollars US?

I'd take the money. As long as my family could come with me. There are millions of people living in places that they did not come from and they are still patriotic.

Yes! Send me the check! My country is worth selling anyways despite the mineral resources we never benefit from. Crap! As long as my family is coming, we would head for Cape Verde.

I love my country, but for a billion dollars I'd love it from a distance and be happy to.
