why is it that my cmputer s not reading or picking up my ipod when i plug it into my computer? it laways sends the message "usb device not recognized"
what shall i do?

is ur computer compatible with the ipod? or maybe u just have the usb code in the wrong outlet.

Is the software installed? Apple Ipod and itunes software: and depending on the model, you will need what they refer to as an " iPod updater" I believe the latest one is 06-28-06 available on Apples' website. If all that is in computer & still not recognizing , check system properties to see if all of your USB ports are enabled.

-Reset your iPod, iPod nano, iPod mini, or iPod shuffle.
-Retry your iPod with a different USB or FireWire port on your computer (please note that the latest iPods can only be synced through USB).
-Restart your computer, and make sure that you have the latest software updates installed.
-Reinstall your iPod and iTunes software. You can download the latest versions of iPod Updater and iTunes from our website.
-Restore your iPod using the latest iPod Updater. Important: Please note that restoring an iPod will erase all songs and files on your iPod and restore it back to its original settings. Make a backup of any files on your iPod before restoring it. After restoring, you can transfer your music and files from your computer back to your iPod again.

There might be a need for you to uninstall and reinstall the software inside the computer .

hopefully you still have your instructions, you have to go to www.appleipod.com and it will tell you some reasons that it is not picking up on you ipod, take it from me i just 2 days ago had that issue, you will also need your instruction book for it,

you may have to upgrade your ipod if you have upgraded your computer recently thats what i had to do with my ipod so just ask the apple people how to do it

Did you install itunes first? You have to do that
