Extinction. There WILL be an ice age, not too long from now either and we are not equipped for extreme cold. Also, there will be another mass extinction; there have been two already. Despite the fact that we are on top of the food chain, we will probably not survive that. If that doesnt come soon enough, well probably die of global warming, both extreme heat and the natural disasters that come with that. The world would be liek a huge microwave, radiation shooting at us constantly from the sun.

I don't see us going toward cloning, if only because there's no need for it (outside of the realm of medical research for growing new organs) - as one of the other commenters pointed out, there are too many of us as it is. Also, cloning really represents a "pause" in evolution more than a form of evolution, since evolution requires genetic variation.
Extinction would be tricky, simply because there are so many of us, living in so many different environments, in so many different places. Even a meteor strike would probably not succeed in killing *everyone* - some people somewhere (in this huge world of 6 billion people) would find a way to survive. We would probably regress culturally, but we'd still be here. Same thing for a nuclear war, etc. Because humans can think abstractly, and thus problem-solve to a much greater degree than other animals, our survival as a species is pretty much assured. I think the whole planet would have to be destroyed in order for all humans to be destroyed.

Human societies evolve at a much faster rate than humans evolve. We won't know what we're evolving into for a million years. Think about the changes in the last 100 years and what the next 100 years will look like. Extinction is unlikely, we're far too dominant on this planet and reproducing exponentially.

Why would we clone when the way we reproduce now is working better than expected. We will go extinct partly due to global warming and an inevitable interplanetary disaster, much like the dinosaur. But if we play our cards right we will be able to create A.I. that can carry out our legacy so we can,in essence, be around forever.

That's a false dichotomy.
Even if humans relied on cloning as a means of self-propogation, it would not preclude extinction, which is inveitable.

I think of wonderful and unexpected transformations, none of the ugly cyborg or mutant cloning. Though maybe rodents and roaches become smart enough to take over the place and we will be their dinosaurs.

How do you figure we are going to be extinct? The world is already overpopulated.

with recent advances in genetics and biology, I suspect that most genetic problems will be bred out of the human race within the next hundred years (less if stem cell research is legal!)
Provided we don't kill our planet within that time frame, we should survive!
