Well I loved Janis, I loved and really thought Hendrix was amazing.. I mean really beyond amazing.. But if you want quality. And a sound with brilliance it's baez..
Well her voice is like a Mercedes.

Artist - Jimi Hendrix (He wasn't very influential as a singer but as a guitarist he influenced every guitarist who followed him in one way or another. He was even an influence of Miles Davis and many blues guitarists - Stevie Ray easily comes to mind.)

Singer - Janis Joplin (but if Aretha was a nominee ...) Joplin proved a white girl can sing the blues. And it wasn't a rich girl acting. She sang from experience and from the gut.)

Joan Baez should not even be listed.

jimi hendrix was NOT influential as a singer. janis joplin was probably the most talented vocalist out of this list but her level of influence isnt necessarilly as visible as ross's on modern female r&b acts and baez's on female singer song writers.

Jimi Hendrix. He made sounds blaze from the strings of his guitar that had almost inconceivable at the time and explored a genre that was not exactly dominated by black people at that time. His passion and stage presence was unequalled, though I can only attest to this from what I've seen from video clips - he died when I was 7.

I admire ( and still listen to ) the talents of the other 3 artists, I think they all made valuable contributions to music, but they fade in comparison - at least in my mind - to they stylings of Jimi Hendrix.
