Different for every pregnancy. I was four and a half months pregnant with my first child before I found out I was pregnant. I had periods straight through the pregnancy. She was placenta previa, and the periods just did not stop. But, I was nauseous for three months and thought I had the flu so I went to the doctor.
My second one, I was charting my temp and trying to get pregnant, so I knew the next morning, and a week later started getting symptoms. Nausea and breast tingling.
My third one, I was nauseaous the next morning!
Tension over wanting to get pregnant can actually cause your period to be late. It can also inhibit your getting pregnant. The human brain is very powerful. I have known women to miss four periods before a doctor was able to convince them that they were not pregnant. They want to be pregnant so bad that their brain induces a false pregnancy. There is nine and a half years between my first and my second. I started to think I could not have anymore children. I went through the gamut. I would cry each time my period started.
I actually know a woman who, due to her weight, did not know she was pregnant until she delivered! No symptoms at all!!! She woke up with severe stomach pains, went to the hospital, and came home with a baby boy!
So, my advice is, relax. Have a glass of wine before sex. Each morning before you get out of bed, take your temperature and chart it. Do this for three months. You will see a definite temp change in the middle of your cycle. That is when you are ovulating. A few days before your anticipated ovulation date make sure your partner man does not ejaculate. Mature sperm are required for conception. If it does not take on month four, then do it again on month five, but raise your hips on multiple pillows and stay in bed for thirty minutes. If after 12 months, you have still not conceived, then consult your OB/GYN. Show him your charts.
He will probably want to get a sperm count done on your partner, which is the least expensive test and should be the first thing done. A man who drinks alcohol with fair frequencey, or wears tight underclothes, or is under a lot of stress, can produce a lower sperm count. These things are easily rectified. If it turns out that his sperm count is okay, then your doctor will look into other things.
Keep your chin up. And try to relax!!!!!

generally if your pregnant you just know, within hours of conception. But if not - I've heard there is a new test out there that lets you know the first couple of days. Your pharmicist would know which one it is. Or there are many clinics and Dr. offices that give free testing once a week. You'd have to check it out in your area.

She is correct. Many other things can postpone periods. (Stress, Medicines, Etc.)
I'll bet you have it this week sometime and everything is fine..
