I wanted to go on holiday there but i heard that the head scarf muslim wear is banned. I was under the impression that the people there are muslims and would be more welcoming to the head scarf. I wear the head scarf and wanted to know if what i have heard is true. i can't go there obviously if it's true.

I have lived in Tunisia for 5+ years. There are many women (young and old) that wear the hijab, including some of my friends. You will not have any problems with it what so ever.

The country is a Muslim country, but is more secular than your traditional Arab countries because it was under French ruling and the country adopted many of their laws from the French. But they also kept many Muslim laws as well.

If you want to see some of my pictures to believe that women wear the hijab, view my photo albums. The first two albums (25 August 2006 & 26 August 2006) will give you probably the most views of women wearing it as the women in my husbands immediate family do not.

If I can be of any more assistance, feel free to contact me!

I am from Tunisia and I assure than Hejab is fine to hear. It is not illegal as there's no law banning it. It's just discouraged.
Covered young ladies get harassed sometimes but nothing bad. You won't be the only one wearing it this summer.
No worris. Tunisian are very tolerant people. Authorities can be a bit of a pain in the .... But they smoothed things out lately.

You can go to most placed with Hijab, though you may have problems when entering some countries with your passport photo, or things you carry with you into the country, stuff like that...

I'm sure Tunisia accept tourists with Hijab. you can check this with the airline company you're travelling with just to be sure.
