Mark 10v6......from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
v7: For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
v8: And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
v9: What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

I thought I used to know the answer to this one but 9 years later I feel that I have wasted that time that I thought was being invested into my future as well as my family's future. Now I want that time back. Dont do it if you never have. There is so much turmoil that is in a marriage. A good solid happy marriage has its issues too so dont let someone tell you that if you have a good marriage you wont have turmoil. they are wrong you will. From the outside if not the inside people involved directly or indirectly. Best bet; stay single, have a lover that is monogomous without the live in commitment and take care of you instead of sacrificing you to take care of everyone else and then having no one there for you when you have made so many sacrifices that its kicking you in the a** and you turn and all the people you took care of are nowhere to be found and you are all alone thinking that they would be there for you and they arent. People are cruel, selfish and demanding. I wouldnt ever get married ever again and I would never sacrific my health again just because someone said they were in need. Never. Think long and hard because what you do now affects your entire future.

The point of marriage in my opinion is the fact that there would be legal recourse for the continued support of the offspring (if any). My wife and I were living together for over 10 years before we got married. Case in point -- my wife cant' have children. The only reason we finally got married is to make the in-laws happy. Plus, there are some tax advantages. Plus we bought a house. The childrens' legal rights are protected by the laws governing marriage, so that would be the reason. Or in a broader sense, financial security, especially for a gold digger. Like I said, my wife and I knew we could never have children at the outset and we were both totally OK with that, so there really wasn't a reason to get married as far as we were concerned. I know that many people feel that it's a way of "proving" that you want to be with the other person forever, but if you look at the divorce rate statistics, it's an empty promise. You could end up hating each other in a few years. You never know. Speaking of which, you really ought to live with someone for at least two years before you make the big legal commitment. It only makes sense.

The point of marriage, as I see it, is that you have a commitment to a person you love, and the two of you will stay together through ANYTHING... not the crap marriages that are so common now, where people get married cuz it's "fun" or so the baby has a legal daddy... to me it's about a commitment... with or without a baby, with or w/out feeling all lovey-dovey, even when ya feel like you'd be better off without them, the two of you become a union... a lot of people who have a bad marriage, haven't been married, or got divorced don't understand, it's an agreement between two people in love to WORK to stay together.... and it is work, but you have a best firiend, a confidant, a lover, a partner that nobody could replace... even if they piss ya off... anyway, that's my take on it and I'm very happy with my wife of 13 yrs. (hell no, not always, but it's still the woman I love, the woman I decided to spend my life with).... good luck and I hope someday you have a wonderfully hard and always growing marriage..

For me marriage is an invention of society. I don´t believe in marriage at all. I´m very much in love with my personal freedom. But this can be very different for different people. It is important what your feeling towards marriage is. What does it mean to you? What would be different if you were married? Would you feel more happiness, more security in your partnership? Marriage cannot change your relationship. It´s an illusion. It might bring up the problems faster to the surface once the honeymoon is over. Marriage cannot save a relationship either. If you are happy with your partner over a long period of time then marriage will not do any harm. Who needs it anyway? just my 2 cents!

Marriage is an institution to keep women from having to seek a life of prostitution!

For men it is totally pointless, Married men have no legal rights, only legal obligations, While he is OBLIGATED to provide financially even in divorce she has no legal obligations whatsoever to the man.
it has nothing to do with religious obligations because a marriage license is a Legal Contract, that is the first big lie.
You don't have to be Married to be in love, Lie number 2.
and you don't have to be married to make a baby, and despite the numerous lies told on this front after releasing his semen men have no enforceable parental rights.
Whether to give birth or abort, how it is raised, how it is named, There are cases where fathers gain custody but as a rule if the woman wants her baby and she is not a mass murderer the courts will award her custody, A man only has financial obligations and until recently and currently in some states still a child born in a marriage but not of the married father was still the responsibility of the married man. So number 3 is the biggest lie of all.

The point of marriage is not happiness or love.. Marriage is a reulst of those two feelings.

Marriage itself is a commitment to spend the rest of your life with someone, whether it be good times or bad, as your vows say. If there is now vow of commitment, then what is to stop people from leaving in a heartbeat, no consequences? There would be no motivation to fix a relationship problem.

Maybe it's not for you, but it is a great step in many people's lives. I'm looking forward to it myself..

There are two aspects to marriage. First is the commitment or vows. These are not legally binding, they are a verbal declaration. Then there is the civil or legal aspect of marriage which is the contract (or license) you sign. This part gives married couples legal rights including inheritance, decision making if the spouse becomes incapacitated, visiting in the hospital, parental rights to children born of marriage, income tax deductions, etc. So, the point of marriage is to legalize your commitment to each other. The other parts-- happiness, love and making a baby can happen with or without a legalized union.

the point of marriage to everyone is a different answer. To some its the ultimate way of showing love, taking or giving of the last name, holy vows that bound you until eternity. Some people do get married b/c the woman is pregnant, some people get married to make alliances with other families(not in the us though..more like europe and asia for that kinda marriage) and some people get married for the money

The point of marriage is about unconditional love and commitment to another person. Children should only come if the marraige is based on these concepts, not because you are pregnant or you want to get a boy or man to marry you.
