Could be many reasons
- too much food, a baby can only hold but so much; like filing up a water bottle
- gas, if they are not fully releaved of gas it comes back up.
- could be a gastro-intensinal problem, see a doctor if they can hold any food down.
then again i dont have any children so im not sure.
Good LUCK and
Sit him up!

My baby does this also. It's caused by an immature digestive system. The first thing you need to do is ask your pediatrician to do an ultrasound on your baby to make sure his or her valves are working properly. If one of them (can't remember if it's the upper or lower one) isn't the baby will need surgery. Reflux is most common in firstborn males. My son's were fine so we began adding 2 tsp. rice cereal to every 2 oz. of breastmilk. If you are formula feeding there is an orange container (can't remember the brand) of formula made for babies that spit up a lot. I have also found that I cannot feed my son from the breast. Instead I pump and feed him from bottles (I use Avent). For some reason this helps. Finally, my son takes Zantac (in liquid form) because the spitting up will give your baby terrible, painful heartburn. Sometimes he just screams when I try to feed him, so I give him the Zantac and wait fifteen minutes and he's fine. When he was younger he would take his Zantac and fall asleep!

Its a burping/ gas thing. They are too immobile to be able to mix the gases up, to the gas will get pushed out, with food.
Also, they have really immature little bodies. Their digestive systems arent always ready for formula or milk. Little bits at a time, is sometimes accepted better, for some babies. It could also be an intolerance to certain formulas, if you use them. Try out some different ones and see how he reacts.
Also, there is such a thing as "reflux", where the valve between the stomach and the esophagus isnt fully developed or is deformed. This can cause excessive spitting up, too.
Check with the pedatrician. As long as hes gaining weight steadily, hes probably fine. =) Just burp him alot.

Make sure you burp him really good. My two month old needs about 5-10 min of patting on the lower back to get it all out. Also try a little pressure on his tummy while you pat him. Good luck :)
