You're starting him off to soon. Most boys don't start until almost 3. If you rush it now and turn him off to the idea, it will take even longer.

Get a good potty-training book if you really want to get him on the pot. Dr. Phil has one, and then there's the old fashioned Dr. Spock. Both have good advice. If he is keeping dry all night long, he's ready to be trained. Consistency is the key and it's alot of hard work. Get a male member of the family involved (Dad or uncle) taking him to pee. Kids learn by example. If he's waking up wet, give him a break. He's not ready.

some kids may need to be trained first by not wearing anything but a tee shirt. my first son was like that. keep the potty near and start from there. my son was scared at first but felt bad when he went on the floor and down his leg. he quickly got the idea. good luck
