The MBBS is not widely known in the US, but it appears to be a 6-year bachelor's degree degree in Australia. It would not allow you to practice medicine in the US, I'm not sure about in Australia or other countries.

In the US, an MD or Doctor of Medicine degree requires 4 years beyond the bachelor's degree (BA or BS) which can be in any major subject (I've known doctors with undergrad degrees in math, religion, and chemical engineering), as long as you have taken the required math and science courses.

The first two years of medical school in the US are classroom lectures and labs--like gross anatomy, which involves dissecting a cadaver in the first semester of med school. The last two years involve "rotations" getting practical experience in clinics and hospitals through different medical specialties: psych, ob/gyn, surgery, radiology, Emergency Room, etc.

After graduation you are finally a doctor, but you must undergo some combination of internships and residencies for several years (depending on your specialty), then take board exams in your specialties. You might also take a fellowship. For example, my sister had a five-year residency in radiology, took exams to become a Board-Certified Radiologist, then took a one-year fellowship to specialize further in pediatric radiology.

During this time you get paid about as much as a high school or elementary school teacher with a four-year degree. After all of that, you can become an attending physician in a hospital or go into private practice and finally make the big bucks--and pay the high malpractice insurance premiums.

I think you can take as long as you like. It depends on how much money your parents have and how hard you study!
