Although Dark red is a very seductive color after a while you might feel like your enclosed in that space and might be hard to match up unique or new furniture. And is a very hard color to paint over if you want a quick change. Stay neutral on the walls. Dark brown floors? Id probably go with a nice cream color. Using a sponge effect on your walls can make the room more defined & rich. As for furniture....if your redecorating you might stick with a taupe color for sofas (many slip covers are available at many prices) Personally, i like the european look, good luck!!!

depends on the feel you want to the room---luckily brown is very in as a neutral. For a serene feel, try a pale blue shade. A butter color is a great look off of that floor as well as a light taupe color. For a vibrant, warm room, try a chinese red (more yellow based than blue). For a very dramatic masculine statement to the room, paint the walls the same brown and create drama from lighting or paint from a chair rail height down in the brown and above do an eggshell.

I think beige. The dark brown pretty much determines the the quality of the light in room (dark but warm light effect). If you go for a contrasting effect (like white, or, gagh, green) I think the harmony would be a little distorted. Specifically, the color I would recommoned is Navajo White (which no way can be confused with "white" white). I'ts a nice beige color. Now if you put light blue trim aroud the molding . . .

i've seen a house a friend of mine had with dark brown and the walls were maroon..........UGH!! talk about weird, it was way to dark even at high noon, and in the evenings when the sun was levelish with the windows, a very yellow/red light seemed to come from the walls, it was weird.
you'll want something that is fairly light yet is offset to dark brown, like a dark/matte shade of orange, it would really give your home that autumn feeling year round.

I think marthastewart.com and fields.com (now taken over by macy's) have tons of pictures of dark brown floors and furniture and the green colored wall seems to go perfect with it. However, the green should be something light sage type green not dark green.. I think green goes perfect with dark brown ..

You would want your walls to be a light colour so that it makes the room appear bigger.

At the same time, The previous owner of our house had painted the room that I use as an office a dark red. Makes the room seem intimate, comfortable and cool.

I guess that it depends on what your use of the room will be.

It depends what is the color of your furniture ---- also if you have a dark floor the walls should be lighter for a more dramatic effect.
