Why is what so important?

It's really important to answer this question for yourself. Success can only be defined by the individual striving for it. I do realize people want others to think that they are successful because of the society we live in, but when you really think about it...what does someone elses opinion (beside the people you love) matter to you? To some money is the pinnacle, for others it is love. What it al boils down to is security...ask yourself what will make you feel secure, then do everything you can to attain your goals. Simply put, the "importance" is ones self esteem.

What does 'it' refer to?
I think everyone understands different things on 'being successful in life' although everybody thinks that it means the same for everyone. Being successful for me doesn't mean to be famous or rich, though both would be nice. I think it's enough if those few ones who know me think at my funeral: 'She had a good life. She new how to love and how to enjoy life, and gave a meaning to every instant.' Yeah, that would be nice.

the better you do at ur job, the more money u get. the more money you get, the more stuff you can have. some people want to do it for the praise and the fame, or the fact that if they do good, they might get noticed. some people want to feel that the lived thier life to the fullest, and in order to do so, they must be the best at everything they do. i personally try to succeed for the third reason: living my life to the fullest. that means something different for everyone. for me, it means living like Christ: WWJD. once i have done that, i will have fufilled my biggest life goal.

It is important to be successful in life because if you don't you will be you will be known as a failure and if you choose to become successful you may be wealthy someday.
