I've read up about it and I'm pretty sure that I have it. It really inhibits my social life. I have major issues with people judging me in almost any situation. I don't go hardly anywhere unless it is absolutely urgent and even then I get anxiety when I have to do it. Even something as simple as talking on the phone to a stranger bothers me (I have to rehearse the entire conversation). I know my thoughts are irrational and no one is really judging me harshly but I can't get over the anxiety. How do I overcome this?

All you need to do is internalize the fact that people are too busy thinking what your impression of them may be for them to give too much thought to anything you may do or say. Just because you are self-conscious doesn't mean you have a social phobia! There's nothing wrong with always wanting to look, be, and sound your best! Each and every person has so many reasons to feel good about themselves; whenever you get anxious about something social, remind yourself how great you are! Because you are great, and no one can dispute that. All you really need is some motivation to gain a stronger feeling of self-worth.

I wish you all the best!

OMG...I had exactly the same thing while growing up! What you described sounds precisely what I went through.

It would be a really good idea to see your Dr. about this, and he can refer you to a therapist. If you are having financial difficulties, there are a lot of low cost services out there.

I got through it, but with a year or two of therapy and counselling.

You should visit your Dr. and discuss your symptoms with him/her. Then your Dr. can help you get referrals to any specialists you may need to see in order to begin some sort of therapy program. I know it can be stressful to even begin such a big adventure, but your Dr. will listen and try to help you. You really can't get over this alone. You need help and support, as well as guidance.

Also, you may have mis-diagnosed yourself. I know from experience that it's easy to read a bunch of symptoms and sort of create them for yourself. Get help. It'll be the best first step.

You could go to a phiatictrist to get some medicine to help you with your social phobia.
