for me it sounds like a partly defective internal power module. hard disk and fan will no more be powered. you can't repair it yourself, except it's an older Dell Inspiron where the internal power module is dedicated and hooked up on the mainboard via a connector.

Your hard disk is most of your laptops built in memory. It may simply be burnt out and need replaced or it may just need to be cleaned. Some computer cleaning aerosols usually do the trick. Unfortunately if it needs replaced then you will lose almost all of your saved files, folders, and documents. The fans may be just broken. That's all I can think of about the fans. The reason the laptop wont even start up is because the hard disk contains all of that info. e.g. Internet, my computer, documents, and everything else. So, the computer doesn't know *how* to start up if it cant locate a hard disk. You could try contacting the company for customer support.

Find a way to open your laptop, make sure the fan's power cable is securly in its proper place and the dust isn't interfering.
Unscrew your hard drive, remove it, and reinsert it. Try booting again. If you boot up and still see a blank screen, check your VGA connection to the video card in your laptop, it might be loose or dusty.
If all fails in order of the most possible occuring problem 1) defective BIOS, 2) defective hard disc, 3) the cable of your fan probably got loose or broken somehow.

Turn off the computer by pressing and holding the power button for a while. Your hard drive and fan may be defective, but there's also a possibility that the BIOS itself is defective. These are serious messages; you may want to have the computer professionally serviced unless it's cheaper just to buy a new machine.

Sounds pretty serious. Let the machine rest and cool off and try again.
Try booting from your operating system cd.
Look in the manual that came with your computer.
If you have any geek friends, ask them.
Without knowing what kind of laptop and what system you're running, it's hard to be more specific.

Your fan, the cooling system for your laptop, is not working. It may have burnt parts of the motherboard, not allowing it to detect the hard drive. You should contact the manufacturer of the laptop or take it in for data recovery, don't try to turn it on anymore.
