suppose instead of buying as much gas as you wanted for the market price, i told you everyone could have 15 gallons a week. 25 gallons for a family. and i would sell it to you for 1.50 gallon

First of all your idea goes totally against America's supply and demand based, capitalist economy.

Think about it.
Many Americans live in places where they are so isolated from public transportation that they absolutely must drive their cars and trucks and SUVS.
An SUV the size of an Expedition, Navigator or Escalade holds about 25 gallons of gas. - allready above your 15 gallon limit.
Furthermore, these vehicles use gas at a high rate so in many cases, a driver can't even get through 6 days without refueling.
On a lesser note, you have workers who really on trucks which hold 30 gallons or more and because they haul loads, they need to refuel as the work demands.

The TRUTH of the situation is that if you cannot afford gas - you should not be driving. There are other, less convienient choices such as car pooling and public transportation to consider.

ETHANOL E85 fuel which should be made readily aviailable around America in the next ten years should help the current fuel crisis but, I doubt it will be very much cheaper than gasoline simply because if you make the price of energy cheaper, you'll have more drivers on the road which will ultimately equal far more damage to the environment as well as other car related problems such as accidents.

Rationing fuel is an unrealistic idea.

What we really need is electric or Hydrogen fusion powered cars.

I agree with you. So many of us WASTE our time driving around for no reason. If we were limited in buying gas, people would stay off the road. A secondary effect would be less pollution.
Ride a bike, walk, take the bus or get a horse.
The Amish folk seem to be doing okay without cars. Visit the Amish country and you will see some very prosperous and happy folk.
The USA could get themselves off of 95% of perscription medicine if everyone would use their own energy to travel around.
Also we are funding much of the worlds terrorism each time we purchase a petrol product.
I am a Republican ,40 something who is seeing a bleak future if USA (the world) does not change it's transportation strategy.

Gas is already rationed. If you cannot afford the price, you cannot buy what you want. When the price hits $6.00 per gallon, people will stop wasting gas.

Why should a family of 4 only get 66% more than an individual?

I wouldnt care because I use my bicycle to get around, 15 gallons would last my lawnmower for so long it wouldnt bother me and I wouldnt have to get gas every week... I dont rely on cars to get me around thats for sure! Everyone else would have a mental breakdown though..I see people drive to the freakin corner store down the street, I think it would be better if gas was rationed maybe then there wouldnt be such an epidemic of obesity!!

PS it would also encourage people to start using alternative fuels and help cut down all the needless pollution people create by driving 1/4 mile to the variety store etc.

Hmm, I only use 10 and I have a family so I could sell 15 gallons on the black market for more than what I paid.

I like it!

Better idea. Anyone who has done any of the following may not purchase gas.

1. Opposed alternative energy sources (that includes Ted Kennedy).
2. Opposed drilling for oil in ANWAR or off the coasts of USA.
3. Opposed increasing refining capacity.
4. Thinks that global warming is the most serious problem in the history of the world, and that the US is the main cause.
5. Opposed the establishment of a "nukular" power plant anywhere in America.

If we help them enjoy the bowl of fruits and nuts that they helped empty they might learn a few lessons.

I think a better idea would be for Americans to declare a no gas weekend and not buy any. Not even for lawnmowers. That would hit them all in the pocket book. The problem as I see it with rationing is that somebody would start a black market for the coupons and sell them for 1.00 each and people would buy them because their total, with gas at your price, would only be 2.50. Or people would get robbed for their coupons.Good idea hard to police.

Wow you must have spent the day with Buffy the vampire slayer.

Non of that will ever happen

Gas distribution is a business if you want to bring down the price buy oil company stocks. Invest your savings in oil. Then you will want the price to go up.

Complaining about gas prices is just saying you don't have any energy stocks in your investment portfolio

I think it is a good idea, as we have to learn that the oil will decrease in production sooner or later not because there isn't any more but it will take longer and longer time to take it up the same amount of oil. Go by train or bus already by now. Walk or use the bike and get some exercise and a healthier life stile.

first off all you would need cars that get better gas mileage ..which congress and the car makers have been STOPPING for the past 3 decades because many people drive a good distance to work....how about this lets figure out why the big oil companies have been failing to update their processing centers for the past decades but yet that has been given billions of dollars to do so by congress
