Why do some women walk around half-naked in public. Are they really that starved for attention?

They walk around half-naked because they desire the attention of other men or women. Everybody likes to feel pretty. It's not that they are starving for attention, but they just like to be noticed. It is a moral booster.

Our society, much of it through commercial propaganda, has elevated physical attractiveness to an exaggerated level of importance. Too many tie their own sense of well-being on how they look rather than on what type of person they are. The cycle goes on because each side feels that's what they should and are expected to respond to rather than more meaningful traits. If recognition of physical attractiveness is the main manner by which we judge others, then that attribute is the one which will be most displayed, because everyone wants to be assured they are OK. Change the priorities and you'll change what people will want you to know about them.

Proof of this is all the eating disorders, cosmetic reconstruction and depression in people who do not fit what they feel is acceptable. Wanting to feel good about ourselves typically starts with how we think others perceive us.

Because they don't realize the KIND of attention they are getting. It has to do with a poor self image...you need attention to feel happy about yourself. And dressing like everybody else is a peer pressure thing. They want to fit in. And they just don't know any better.

I honestly think you are right.

The older I get, the more I notice and remember that we dressed for attention and usually we dressed to impress other girls rather than guys.

Impress other girls meaning to show the other girl up..like out do the other gal sort of thing.

Isn't it funny that we are one of the few species that the female actually competes for the males attention instead of the other way around?

Due to a lack of moral guidance from parents stemming from family break-ups and instability ,a decline in moral values, a more liberal and secular society and an emphasis in physical attributes as the primary factor in determining their self-esteem,more women as seeking to exploit their own sex appeal (and sexual power) in an effort to feel important and part of something. This is part of a much bigger problem, known to many as "materialism" or a consumer-driven society. In other words, this issue is more of a reflection of the modern dynamics of the family unit, or lack thereof

I think its to flaunt sexuality. I am a woman who dresses modestly and conservative, never scanty, and have always found it kind of repulsive seeing women exploiting their sexuality and looking like they are going to go hop in bed with someone in an hour or so. I agree that they must do it to get attention from men (as they are visual oriented). Sometimes I have felt inferior in the presence of women dressed like that then again I am thankful I don't have the psychological problem that they do that causes them to dress like that.

I think for the most part, it is for attention. Especially the ones who walk around complaining that they're too fat. If you thought you were fat, you wouldn't be out running around half naked.

Partly to make her feel good. If the woman takes note some man looking at her, it re-affirms that she is still attractive.

Many are not starved for attention per se, but are extroverted exhibitionists who feel no embarrassment or shame about their bodies. To each his own. Or her own.
