No, it is not normal. This is generally a condition called lymphadenitis and it could indicate a rather serious condition.
It is similar to having mononucleosis, which, in fact, it could very well be. In that case, you should be treated with antibiotics.

Since it is bilateral (in both armpits...), the signs of serious disease are therefore lessened. However, if they do not go away or shrink significantly within ten days, I suggest you find the closest teaching hospital or affiliated clinic near you to get it checked out. Don't worry about the money...they generally charge you what you can afford. The fees are scaled to meet your income.
Either way, money should be the least of your worries if you do not have your health. It will only get worse.

Best of luck to you!

Hi cinnie,
An armpit lump usually refers to enlargement of one or more lymph nodes in the armpit.

Lumps in the armpit have various causes. Cysts and infections on the surface of the skin of the armpit may be caused by shaving or use of antiperspirants. This usually occurs most frequently in adolescents just beginning to shave. Abscesses under the skin may also produce large, painful lumps in the armpit.
Lumps may be produced by lymph nodes enlarged due to bacterial and/or viral infections, vaccinations, and malignancy. A breast self-examination should always include the armpit because breast cancer can enlarge the armpit lymph nodes even when the breast itself seems perfectly normal.
Lymph nodes are filters that can catch malignant tumor cells or infectious organisms. When they do, lymph nodes increase in size and are easily felt.
