i've had a few cats in my life and i've noticed they seem to look into corners of the room, abruptly turn and stare at nothing, and can appear freaked out when there is no apparent cause. i know of many myths concerning a cats ability to see apparitions, spirits, ectoplasmic energy and angels. what do you think about this and are there any personal experiences worth mentioning?

In the dark, with their night vision, cats win the seeing contest against humans hands down.

As far as them 'seeing things', I think they notice things that people don't usually notice (because THEY notice things that are interesting to cats, and we notice things that are interesting to PEOPLE).

Cats probably think we freak out over things for no reason - like when they see their owners reacting to what comes out of a big (warm) moving picture box in the living room, an object much better suited to sleeping upon.

I have heard all of my life that cats are very sensitive to the supernatural. They are said to be able to sense the presence of a spirit...good or evil...when you here them hissing and growling it is said to be an evil spirit. They say that cats will stay around a person a lot if they are sick or ill. I had a friend who experienced that with a family member first hand. She told me that the cat had never lived inside but once the person got sick they couldn't keep the cat out of the house and it slept on the foot of the bed day in and day out until the person passed away. After the death the cat started staying outside again.

My cat used to do that before it died (this was about 6 years ago) Now I have two dogs, and they both will stare for long periods of time at the place my cat used to sleep in the house. But no one/nothing is there, so I can only guess at what they're looking at.

I also truly believe that cats can see things...it is kind of creepy when the do that...My cat Juliet can definitely sense "others" in the room with us.

She once sensed a bad spirit and hissed at absolutely nothing.

Just the other day, she jumped up from the couch and got on her back legs like a spirit was petting her.

It was pretty cool

Yes. I heard that cats can see movement better than people.
While the picture on TV appears to be unchanged, most cats can see the changing picture frames.

The cat’s vision is exceptionally well adapted for hunting, especially at night. It has excellent night vision; extensive peripheral vision; and binocular vision, which enables it to judge distances accurately. The cat’s daylight vision is not as good as that of human beings; cats see movement much more easily than detail, and are thought to see only a limited range of colours.

Well if you follow all the movies cats and little kids can see because they are open to seeing things adults don't want to see. I don't believe this. I think they can see and hear better in the dark. So that cockroach or mouse in the corner is very loud!

Yeah, our cat looks up in the air and play's with things that we can't see! She also rolls around on the ground playing and we like to think that she's playing with our other cat that passed away a couple years ago! I know she misses her. I believe in ghosts and I also believe that animals go to the other side so why not animal ghosts. I like to think that my pets will be on the other side when I get there, don't you? Peace...

Cats have been known as guardians, since the days of Pharoah, cats have had a sixth sense about things that we can't see or explain. That's why cats are thought to have nine lives.

i think that all animals are suceptible. i think that both of my cats see things, & i know that my dog does, because he tends to bark at nothing, & will run around the house growling for no reason. as for my cats, i'll hear them growling & hissing for no reason, not to mention see them hiding in closets the majority of the day.

who knows? maybe they're more fine-tuned when it comes to having a sixth sense.

My cats do all of that too, and I believe the reason is that they are angels in disguise. I know my Goldie is. I prayed to God to give me someone like me, God gave me my cat Goldie, and she has been my rock. If I feel sad or lonely, she is there for me and I can talk to her and she will never judge me.
