What I look for, and have finally found is:
truthfulness, honesty, lots of love, respect for me, himself, and others, sense of humor, intelligence, secure with self and profession, doesn't abuse me or others, doesn't spend all of his money on crap and makes sure that his bills are paid--on time (responsibility), kindness, won't lie and cheat, great communication about everything, among other things.
Every person is different in what they look for in a partner. If I were you, I would figure out what it is you want your partner to have, then look for those things that are the most important to you.

It appears women are looking for answers on how to change there men. Most choose men that are drug users, no job, cheaters, been in jail and are very abusive to them. So this could be the answer to your question what there looking for.

I think a guy needs to be responsible (secure, trustworthy, committed), sensible, affectionate, humorous/witty, intelligent/articulate, and passionate about things and of course, crazy about ME!

depends what you mean by successful
but IMO, the most important traits are:
He's respectful
He's trustworthy
He's loving
