Hmm, I don't know how concise it is for me, but for many people it would be....Cold War Culture in America is facinating and quite crazy if you look into it.
Here is a book you could use to help you get started if you're not familiar with it:
Homeward Bound: American Families in the Cold War Era by Elaine Tyler May
Ooo another fun one is how Napoleon REALLY died! Did you know they put arsenic in his wallpaper and had a leak in his roof on purpose so that the water would seep in, react with the arsenic, and vaporize...all so he'd be poisoned slowly over time w/o raising suspicions? Well, I thought it was cool...

Ah there is plenty to do - Historical people, for example - Galileo, Genghis Khan, The first emperor of China (Qing), Joan Of Arc, Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens), or you can write about the Westernization of Japan by British forces in the 1800s, How Napolean returned to Europe, the invasion of Washington D.C. and the sack and destruction of the White House in the War of 1812, Custer's Last Stand, Cortez and his destruction of Tenochtitlan. There is so much to write about!

You should write an essay arguing whether or not Jesus Christ existed given historical evidence. Just a thought.

History on discovery and development of penicillins and other vaccines
Think what you like reading more about a topic and write about it: biology (evolution, extinction, genetic engineering), medicine (discovery of anesthesia, etc), climatology and geology (volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes), technology (computers, telephones, telegraphs, trains, airplanes, electricity), etc.

You can pick any president and something significant they did. One of my favorites is Abraham Lincoln. He accomplished many things in a short period of time.
