i'm running home edition (unfortunately) and i've had this problem for a while now, off and on. some days i'm able to open up folders ie my computer, control panel, etc but more often than not i'm not able to. norton and spysweeper dont seem to detect anything. oddly enough the same thing happens with AIM, however that never opens, despite unistalling and reinstalling it several times. anyone have an inkling as to what might be the problem? thanks

This usually is a virus problem, try using a better anti-virus system, like nod32, bitdefender or something like that. And keep your anti-virus updated and the virus definition updated.

Try rolling it back with system restore to a date before the jiggy problems started. Mine started acting up (yep, Home Edition) and I rolled it back a day. It's been fine ever since. Good luck.

Geez ...uninstalling and reinstalling severaltimes could have your registry all tied up...another consideration is temporary files....try clean disc utility as soon as you boot up....delete all temporary files if you have them show up in there....also download a good registry cleaner and clean up your registry. Look for freeware at download.com, zdnet.com or tucows.com
get yourself a registry cleaner.
