Took part time Trinity College TESOL course. Hadn't done any teaching before so I learned a lot. it was hard work to fit in around full time job, but I managed it okay. The syllabus was really good. Started off with teaching us some basic grammar, then we moved on to teaching methods, lesson planning etc and this was combined with practical work such as observing lessons and teaching 5 or six lessons.

Did it pay off? Well nearly, lol. It got me a teaching position in Japan, unfortunately due to reasons we don't need to go into here (a sad and tragic tale, lol) I couldn't go, but I doubt I'd have been offered the position without the qualification.

It doesn't replace teaching experience but it does give you an edge in looking for jobs over people who haven't done any english language teaching before...

My daughter did a TEFL course, it cost a lot and was hard work, then she couldn't get work. That was a few years ago, she is still in touch with some of her fellow students and most are in the same position. She tried recently to get some voluntary work, but couldn't even get that!

Yeah I did it for a month at International House in Piccadilly. It was a bit pricey (1200 quids) but good fun and informative. I now live and work in Valencia, Spain.
