I would suspect that the loss of hearing is the result of too much blunt trauma about the skull.

I don't think that has anything to do with that, I took a speach class this past year. I have learned that there are certain words that you say as a place filler in other words to help stop the quiet. Here are some of them Umm,what,and like they are place fillers.
