you know that phycopath group that protest at dead soldiers' funerals and wishes for soldiers to go to hell? The ACLU is defending them and Sue'ing the government
This is perhaps the meanest thing I will ever say on Yahoo Answers but I would laugh to see Fred Phelp's eyes gouged out of his head. I hope he rots in hell.

cat38skip, keep with the personal attacks and don't even bother to read the question. Oh and keep defending the group that is defending a HATE ORGANIZATION led by Phelps.

." They put up with crap from people like you for defending people'es rights as Americans,"
So by sue'ing to make $$$ and defending people just for money that is defending our constitituion?
m1nus: we all have a right to protest but NOT AT A FUNERAL OF A SOLDIER. It isn't a proper place for a political battle.
And the ACLU was brave in the early years. They started with good intentions, but some of the most horrible people started with good intentions too.

The ACLU has the very unenviable job of protecting the civil rights of all citizens, including their right to freedom of speech, even when they're wrong. Yes, Phelps and his followers deserve to burn in hell, but we don't have the right to send them there. The ACLU has defended the rights of a lot of unpopular groups, including some I'm sure you'd agree with. If they chose their cases based solely on personal feelings, they wouldn't be doing their job because they'd be discriminating and that's what they exist to fight.
To sum it up by paraphrasing the words of a famous American, "I disagree with everything Phelps and his followers are saying, but I (and the ACLU) will defend to my death their right to say it." That said, I agree that this kind of behavior is unacceptable at funerals and would favor a new version of the law that doesn't discriminate against any specific groups. A more generalized law against funeral crashing of any kind might do it. I'd like to see them stopped, but we can't afford to throw away our Constitutional right to free speech just to silence people we disagree with.

Yes they should, and when some dictator takes over this country and burns the constitution and declares Americans are under martial law, people like you should burn in hell for hating the group of people that could have prevented that. Stop being a dumass, just because the ACLU defends people's American rights that people like you don't seem to agree with does'nt mean they are evil. They put up with crap from people like you for defending people'es rights as Americans, they are wy more American than you will ever be, you should move to China where people don't have rights, and you will be shot for saying anything against the government, I guess people like you like that sort of country, but I will be damned before I let trash like you turn America into that. American Civil Liberties Union, if those words are bad to you, than you are unAmerican as can be and should be shot for treason, and when I take you out back to put a bullet in your head, guess who is gonna save yer ***, the ACLU, ***** dumass

Everyone, even crazies, have the right to express their opinion. While some things may be in poor taste, or you may disagree with them, they are not illegal. The ACLU has also defended right wingers from time to time. If there is a hell, people who defend others rights should not be there.

Hopefully this is the least intelligent thing you have said as well. The ACLU defends the constitution, it does not matter whether or not the behavior of a particular group is agreeable.

If someones civil liberties are being jeopardized then the ACLU stands up for them even if they are scum.
Get a grip people the ACLU are protecting every ones rights not just those who they agree with. Hell, they even protect the rights of conservatives.

The problem with this is that, if they win, someone's gonna take matters into their own hands.
You might be seeing Phelps' eyes gouged out sooner that you think.
If I was at my own son's funeral and this group showed up, I'd end up in jail.
But Phelps' eyes would be on the pavement.

How odd that you should condem the group who defended your drug-smuggling doctor shopping hero Rush Limbaugh. Such narrow minded hateful people as You are the ones who will be feeling the heat.
