Back in 1991, a new Chevy Cavalier would cost you about 13000 US Dollars, NEW. Now, a similarly equipped 2006 Chevy Cobalt (The Cav's replacement) costs, you guessed it, about $13000 US Dollars. BUT, back in 1991, a normally equipped Chevy Extended Cab truck cost about $21000 US Dollars.........while TODAY, the similarly equipped Chevy Extended Cab truck costs about and in some cases in EXCESS of $30,000 US Dollars. The same formula holds true for other makes as well, I'm not picking on Chevrolet. My question is.........why?

Most cars will lose about 30% of their value as soon as you drive off of the car lot.. But trucks on the other hand, are a more versatile vehicle and are used for more than just commuting...How many cavaliers can you transport furniture in or tow a boat with..Trucks are in more of a demand plus hold their resale value better....

What the market calls for. Basic economics Supply and Demand. They can get the price for the trucks. I have a chevy extended cab silverado with a 5.3 liter V8 automatic, pwr everything, CD, cloth interior and I rolled out the door TT&L for just under 20

WELL WITH NEW TIMES COMES NEW TECHNOLOGY SUCH AS BACK IN 91 IF YOU WOULD HAVE GOTTEN A SILVERADO PICKUP C/K1500 WITHE THE FUEL INJECTED 350 COMPARED TO THE NEW MORE POWERFUL AND NOT TO MENTION FUEL EFFICENT MOTORS OF THE ONES IN THEM TODAY IT ANSWERS YOUR OWN QUESTION. AS NEW TECHNOLOGY COMES OUT IT MAKES CARS FROM BACK THEN SEEM LIKE THEY WERE IN THE STONEAGE. AND BACK THEN THE DEMAND FOR THESE VEHICLES WASNT SO HIGH, THESE VEHCLES GO OUT IN MAS PRODUCTION I WORKED AT 3 WAY CHEVROLET IN BAKERSFIELD CA . FOR 3 YEARS IN A ROW THEY HAVE BEN THE #1 NCHEVY DEALER IN THE NATION. THESE CARS ARE JUST FLYING OUT. THATS WHY THEY COST MORE, 4X4 FOR INSTANCE WAS ALWAYS ON THE FLOOR IN THE SILVERADOS YOU STIL HAVE THAT OPTION WITH A TRIM PACKAGE BUT THE Z71 IS A PUSH BUTTON 4X4 I MEAN THERES JUST SO MANY THINGS THE XM RADIO HOOKUP, HEATED SEATS, I MEAN THE LIST JUST GOES ON AND ON. PLUS THINGS COST MORE TO PRODUCE THESE DAYS.
