I met Thelonious Monk at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1965. I was hired as night clean up person around the stage, and it was nearly 4AM. I was fooling with some blues at the piano, and Monk came in, listened to me for about a minute before I became aware of him, said in a gruff voice "Keep working it. It will come eventually". Sat down beside me and played one chorus of "Round Midnight" and then got up and walked off.

Well I have met quite a few celebs while I worked in the music biz as a assistant lighting director, the funniest thing I ever saw I was in Little Rock AK at a Rolling Stones show and was coming back from catering when trailer door flew open and a tray of sushi came flying out and two pieces hit me. I was on the way to kick someones *** over it and it turned out to be Keith Richards who apologized and had a couple of beers with me. So no harm on foul.

About 22 years ago, before she was seen nationwide, I was on Oprah's show. I went as an audience member and ended up on stage with the guest. I still have Oprah's autograph and when my friend and I were leaving the show that day, Oprah asked us what had been happening on "All My Children" because she overheard us talking about getting home to watch it.
Then about 9 years ago I was working at a 5 diamond hotel here in North Carolina and I met Betty White who was a guest at the hotel. She was very very nice...just like she appears to be on tv. I also met Brian Bointano and some of the other world class figure skaters who came to stay at the hotel. Then there was Jerry Lewis who had come to stay. Let me just put this nicely...He was not a very nice person. While working at this hotel, I also met Steadman, Oprah's boyfriend and he was a very powerful presence..he was big, huge hands but very nice...quiet! I missed meeting James Taylor by 15 minutes...he had just checked out prior to my shift that day.
Oh, and when I was about 15 years old, I met Donny, Jay, Merrill, Wayne and Alan Osmond. I gave them a cake, got pictures, autographs and passes to their concert. They were extremely nice and down-to-earth.

I think I was eight or nine years old when Bob Hope came to Grand Valley University to do a show, at that time there is only one very tall building in town, the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel which I think is something like 40 stories. Anyway, he mentioned having been in town a few years earlier had loved how much the city 's skyline had changed. He then proceeded to flip off the entire audience and say that was what the city skyline looked like flying in from Detroit, and that he was sure it was no coincidence.

Yes. One day me and my friend planned a trip to go shopping in Hollywood but got lost and ended up on Rodeo Dr. We decided since we were already there we would park and look in some of the shops although we knew we wouldn't be able to afford anything. We went into this little boutique and a limo pulled up. We were wondering if it would be someone famous and it was. In comes Cher. The people who worked in the store were waiting on her hand and foot. We walked up to her and said hello. My friend was a big fan of her son who is in a band so she talked to Cher about her son. She was really nice.
I have also met the figure skaters Scott Hamilton and Oksona Biul when I was at a competition in Sun Valley, Idaho. We saw Scott at a restaurant and got his autograph on a napkin then we snuck into the skating rink while he was practicing and watched him skate. I was 12 years old at the time and I was a figure skater so it was really exciting for me.

I've met people that still are celebrities and some that aren't celebrities anymore. I've seen the Nelson brothers at a casino, but I never met them, I saw them going up the escalator. My dad has met a lot of wrestlers, and I was with him when he met them. They were old ones though, one that doesn't wrestle anymore and one who's famous move was something like "the chicken wing" or something. he also doesn't wrestle anymore, but at the time we met him, he did. i've met bret hart, and i saw him twice in the same day and he remembered us the 2nd time we saw him cuz we had seen him like 3 hours before at an autograph signing then we went to his match. I've also met Blue Oyster Cult. They were at this Oyster festival, and it got really rained on, and the guys let my dad and his friend on stage and let them wipe down the equipment. My dad also saw another wrestler in the airport, but I don't remember his name. Again, another wrestler that doesn't wrestle anymore.

I once met Dixie Carter from Different Strokes (she played the wife of the lead guy) She's married to Hal Holbroke. I was working for Tidy Maid at the time and was cleaning the home of her voice coach in Indian Hills. She gave me a autograph picture and took a photo with me by the pool and gave me her address so I cold write to her. That was before computers. She was very nice and not afraid to talk to a fan.

I've met a few, but the nicest person I ever met was Little Steven. He didn't act like what people think a celebrity is and was giving everybody free tickets to his concert in Amsterdam Holland. I went as far as closing my cafe early that night and make it to the show. Which was a great experience.
Thing with celebreties is that they are normal people, only everybody knows or thinks to know them.

The only *celebrity* I ever met was The Undertaker. This was about 15 years ago. I was working as a bartender & he came in, sat at the bar & had dinner. That's all. I was surprised at how nice he was. Tipped well, too,
