Being miserable myself wouldn't make life any better for starving children. ::moves closer to the air conditioner:: I'll be as comfortable as possible in my room, and take action to help those who need it whenever I can. After all, if I was suffering in the heat, I'd be thinking about myself and not the plight of others.
An iced tea would be nice, but I can get it m'self.

This question haunts me too.
Whenever I feel too comfy, the first thought coming to my mind is, ' What good have I done to deserve this? And what about the people in war-ridden, calamity-affected regions? What about millions of poor people around the globe?'
I don't believe in the 'all talk no work' way of living. I am a teen now and am trying to do charity whenever the opportunity comes. I donate very often and help poor people in my neighborhood. And respectful of all those out there starving, I do not EVER throw away food, I eat my little bro's left-over and don't feel embarrassed to do so. He does the same way by using my (slightly worn-out)schoolbooks. I give clothes and medicines I don't need to those who can't afford many. I don't waste gas(I don't drive too often, I walk), water(I harvest rain water) and electricity(AC's allowed only in summer). My family is middle-class but sponsors a poor girl's education.
I'm proud the way I've been raised; always giving due respect to whatever comfort or luxury I get.

I felt really horrible, so I turned the AC up a few degrees, 72 now. Of course today it only got into the low 80's today. And on the way to the thermostat I got a beer from the fridge, so no thanks, Oh but I forgot to get you one. Oh well help yourself, you know where the kitchen is right?
It does suck for people to suffer, did you just want to remind us or did you have some epiphany about if everyone answering questions on Yahoo! answers went out and did something, all world suffering would be resolved?

I feel pretty good, thanks.
The chair has an electronic massage motor.
And, it reclines.
It also swivels.
And, the air conditioning is working fine.
Finally, I hardly ever get bombed anymore. I watched a TV commercial that advised me to "drink responsibly." And, if I miss a meal or two, that's all right; I need to lose about 5 pounds.
Thanks, again, for your concern.

Well, lets see, WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN? Kids have been dying for a generation and it hasn't bothered you until NOW? Wow, how selfish are you? So suddenly you expect everyone else to care because YOU WOKE UP? Don't think so. Some of us are already doing things while "your getting your drink." Enjoy it.
And, by the way, the next time you have an epiphany, save it for the Choir.

I feel terrible for them but it is not like i can grab my gun and go over there to help. If I stopped to think of everything I have that unfortunate people dont I could seek answers in suicide because it will depress me too much. If i turn off my air conditioner will it make a difference?? Or if i gave up all my belongings and wandered in the streets, will that even help at all?? I doubt it. one person DOESNT make a difference. It has to be the whole.

I think about the kids all the time. I was a kid during ww2 and it never leaves you even now in my comfort I think back to the 1940's. SO how many children will have all of this to stay with them forever and what can we do? Donations are a ????for me. I wonder how much of donations go to CEO's with big salaries. I speak of hunger drives. The war is up to the big shots and what they have in their agenda. The children never have a voice.

There has never been a time in human history when there was not someone somewhere starving or miserable. Does that mean that no human being in history ever had the right feel good?

It is beyond your personal control. You are a sensitive human being to worry about issues like this, but don't get too worked up about it because as one person, you can't do anything about it. If you want to put your sensitivity to good use, then go volunteer for an organization that helps children. I am not being sarcastic, trust me. Just trying to put things in perspective!

It bothers me alot, it's hard not to feel quilty when I sit down to dinner...I visited the slums in Mexico 11 years ago. I haven't ever gotten over it. Watching little children beg is humbling...Edna calm down, your acting a little pschotic.
