Guinea pigs (cavies) make great pets for affectionate kids, and live about 4-6 years. They squeal when happy or hungry, which surprises some people. Guinea pigs cost about $15-30 each. Curly coated pigs are cuter, but smooth coated pigs are softer and easier to pet. The cages purchased in pet stores are usually too small, but the website below has a way to make a larger, cheaper cage that will be fun to make. Larger cages smell less, and they are not more difficult to clean. Guinea pigs are social critters, and will be happier if you get two, same gender. If you get males, make sure they were raised together.

I'm 13 and I have a dog a mouse and a hamster and 3 fish. But I would say the most worthwhile pet is a dog as they can become your friend and are very good companions.

all pets should be FAMILY PETS.. a Guinea Pig might be ok but you need a short lived pet since you will be leaving home soon enough you dont want a pet to live longer than that because your parents may "dump" it when you move out if its not a family pet - and finding a landlord that allows pets is tough

If you couldn't take care of a hamster, you should get a fish.

bunnys are good because they are smart, affectionate, and not too expensive. You can get one at SPCA or pound for a very low price. If you are careful and find the right one it will be nice to just hold and pet.

first off, to make things clear, hamsters live to 5 years of age, so you must have done somthing really wrong to kill it so early. get a pet rock, if you're lucky, it should live around three years.
