I worked on the yearbook staff for two years at my high school and we didn't have much help from the sponser so we were pretty much on our own. Just try to be open minded to everyone's suggestions and if no one can decide just have them vote.

Push for things that you'd like to see but if they don't agree, try not to get upset, just ask what they would change about your ideas. Don't forget to give everyone a chance to voice thier opinions and treat everyone fairly and equally so people don't think you have favorites.

As far as the advertising went, we all wrote a letter and of course had forms to fill out, and went to different businesses along the streets. Like Hair Salons, Banks, Antique shops, different stuff like that. If there is a certain business you would like to ask but can't do it directly, send them one of your letters and a form for them.

Don't forget to include a self addressed, stamped envelope for them to return it to you! And don't forget your parents companies and the other students parents. Parents can help a lot if you just ask!

Oh, we also had different sizes of advertisements that the companies could choose from. A business card size was $25, we fit 8 on one page, a quarter page was $50, we fit 4, a half page was $100 anf a ful page was $200. We got quite a few full pages! It's amazing how much a struggling business will give just to get thier name out there!

Have all of your classmates make a list of 5 or so different places that they go to a lot or have heard of and try to go there first! Hope this helps!

I was the high school yearbook editor. I found what worked best was to assign tasks to people that they were good at and enjoyed. They usually did a better job if they liked to do it and were good at it. Also, I wouldn't get an ego about it and start acting like you're the boss. Some people will come to you with really good ideas and you should consider them and not just write them off because they aren't yours.

As for advertising, your teacher should have all the ads from last year and you basically just resell a similar ad to the same company or try to convince them to buy a bigger ad. Also, recruiting parents and family members to put a "Congrats" ad for thier seniors.

Don't be too uptight, try to enjoy it while it lasts!! Good luck!
