Being self-employed definitely helps when I get bored. I have the good fortune of being able to simply leave whenever I feel like it and do something else.
Usually I go to the airport, ask when the next flight leaves and buy a ticket- it's that simple. I don't often care where I end up and usually it kills the boredom. More often than not I decide what to do when I get there.

Get a journal and write about the aspects of your life you enjoy and don't enjoy. Keep the positive and change the rest. Happiness is really just a state-of-mind.
