My computer was slow, and I installed some more ram last weekend. After installing it , it was much faster for about 3 days. When I am checking my e-mail, it's so slow between pages that sometimes it will time out. I think I have a memory leak. Is there anyting I can do to fix it, short of re-installing a new OS?

Go to http://www.pcpitstop.com and run their Optimization scans to track down any problems.

Also use something like ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite or SPYBOT: Search & Destroy to check for Spyware

http://www.safer-networking.org/

If using Internet Explorer, check the Temporary Internet Files folder..... as sometimes the Database file for that has a tendency to screw-up...... you can usually tell by Right-clicking on the folder and selecting PROPERTIES to see how big the folder is..... if it's gotten larger than the Slider for it in INTERNET OPTIONS is set to, it means you've got that problem. After much struggling, I found the Cache Cleaner tool included in ZONEALARM INTERNET Security Suite helps fix it.

If you've been running your PC for days at a time, instead of shutting it off when you ain't using it, try restarting the computer.

You should also check for spyware if you are using MS Windows. With at least two different spyware programs. Adware/spyware steal your bandwidth and are usually buggy and cause other problems like maybe memory leaks. Also you should check maybe it is your internet connection? And also it may be the web site you are going to to check your webbased email is slow on their end. I'd need more info. like your OS and your email site? And connection type dsl/cable/dial-up etc?

Computer Slow

Download and then run startup.exe (FREEWARE) at:

http://www.mlin.net/startupcpl.shtml......

Can't live without it and windows...

Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don't need.

Other things to try:

1 - Disk Cleanup (removal of temp files, cookies, etc.)
2 - Defrag
3 - Registry Cleanup (CAN BE VERY RISKY!)

ALL ELSE FAILS - RELOAD YOUR O/S (WINDOWS) AND THEN REINSTALL ALL OTHER PROGRAMS YOU NEED/USE!
