A dictatorship needs to control the media so it can get peoples support. Dictatorships stay in power more from love of the controlled than because of their fear. Most Germans loved Hitler, most Russians loved Stalin because the media was controlled and only told them wonderful things about their leadership. Sounds familiar. The media could not assassinate President Clinton's character fast enough or brutally enough, but it lets the present guy slide by with so much incompetence and corruption and ineptitude and dishonesty!!! Why? Republicans own the media, its simple enough.

I agree that they are yes, but I think they are far more influenced by the news than anything. The media should be unbiased and objective however, it is my opinion that this should be less of a concern to the public than the mentality of the people themselves.

Why are people such sheep? Why are they influenced by the political views of a celebrity? Why is the majority of the public so incapable of forming their own views?

I think that the world has seen a severe decline in intellectual standards and should address that issue first.

the issue of effects studies has been hotly debated since the 1930's with the stong effects, limited effects and hypodermic theories all having considered. The recent thinking is that the media is one of a number of voices which influences but cannot do so if other authority voices do not support what the media pushes. Culture creation and agenda setting work to create a sort of hegemony.

The power of suggestion. That's why we have commercials, people are influenced by what we see. When it comes to politics, the media only covers half truths. So, it's up to us to do our research and learn more about what exactly is going on, not just what's being said. The media, to me is sometimes biased in their opinion and cover only things that boost ratings.
