Rabbits are not for a 13 year old. They are deffinatly for adults only.
They are very high maintenance, a dog or cat can be left alone all day, a rabbit cannot, it will go insane from bordom. They need constant play and attention and mental stimulation.
They are not the cute cuddely type, thye are cute but not so you cna handle them, if you do handle them its on their terms ONLY. They will demand it when they want it.
They also need lots of space, they are not to be caged its cruel. They are not a hamster.
think hard before you get one, ours is a house bunny and potty trained, he will only ever poop or wee in his tray and no where else so mess isnt an issue but you need to spend the time to get them there and the time after to keep them occupied.
I think a 13 year old has too much in her life to do without adding a rabbit to it. The day you want to study, can you also spend 2-3 hours with your rabbit?

From my experience, rabbits don't particularly like to be handled and can be somewhat fragile. They also prefer the company of other rabbits or guinea pigs to humans. If you're looking for a pet that will really bond with you (follow you areound, etc.) a cat might be better. Also, if you really want a rodent-like pet, rats make excellent pets. They will follow you (if trained and handles a lot) and are clean and easy to care for. The only drawback is their short life span (3 yrs. or so) but that might be good for a 13 year old who might not be able to commit to years of caring for a pet, or who might loose interest in a pet after a while (I think the average life span for a rabbit is 7 - 10.)

In my opinion NO. I got a rabbit when I was 18, biggest mistake ever. Oddly enough...they are higher maintenance then say...a cat or dog. BECAUSE... they poop literally EVERYWHERE. I got rid of him because he stunk so bad. I used to let him run around the house and after I gave him away I was still finding rabbit poop all over the place for months after. There was a huge pile under my bed to name one place. Plus my rabbit...though bred specifically to be a pet rabbit....NEVER ever warmed up to me. When I tried to pick him up and cuddle him he would act insane and scratch me until I put him down...then he would hide under the bed...well I think we all know what he was doing under there!! Also, do not get a ferrett...it's almost the same as having a rabbit. People get under the impression that these animals are easier to maintain then a cat or dog...but that is SO not the case. I reccomend a cat honestly...because at least they will use a litter box...and for the most part cats don't stink. You could get a dog...but you will have to housetrain him. Also, Rabbits are pretty boring...I know mine lost my interest very quick. I can imagine how quick a 13 year old boy would lose interest. ---My ferret setup cost me over $300 at the pet store...and the cage, etc. for my rabbit wasn't much cheaper. Save your money and head down to your local pet shelter and save the life of a little puppy or kitten instead. Then you can hit your local dollar store and buy a cheap litter box and litter. A cat or dog actually have the ability to become attached to their owner....it's much harder to get a ferret or rabbit to become attached. Good Luck!!

Rabbits are a good pet for any kids between the ages of 8 and 14. A rabit takes alot of caring for. This could teach a child responsability.

Yes, they are very good pets. They're a lot smarter than people think. They love to be petted. Be sure you feed them clean food only. That is, in America native rabbits are immune to pin worms, but domesticated rabbits are a European species and thus not immune. If you feed them grass that you pull up in your yard, you may be giving them the cysts that grow into pin worms, so periodically treat them with piperzine citrate (17% solution); put about 5 drops in their water (ten days later do the same). So anytime you give them something from outside (grass leaves, fallen white oak leaves, or garden vegetables) be sure it has been washed thoroughly.
If you keep them in pens, fence in that area (the rabbitry) because they can from time to time get out of their cages. Mine usually just walk up to me so they can be put back---but they have to be very used to you and trusting in you (young rabbits are quite different, playful and "wild" so you need to handle them a lot so they are used to you picking them up). Incidentally, pick rabbits up by the loose skin over their shoulders. Rabbits can be raised indoors and taught to use a litter box, just like cats. Personally, I don't recommend it, however.

I got a rabbit when I was 7, had it for 5 years. They wont follow you around or anything special. Our backyard was fenced and on nice days I would let the rabbit run around the yard and eat the grass. Honesty they are kind of a boring animal. If you decide to get one a little advice. When they get mad they scratch and bite (if a person is holding them) also they eat their own poo.

You should check out this websites to see a rabbit is something you would find interesting. People don't understand is that a rabbit isn't affectionate like a dog or cat. They have their own way of letting you know they are happy.

my sister has a rabbit and it can be very temperamental. IMO i wouldnt suggest it as a pet for a 13 year old. it is supposedly litter box trained but it poops all over her apartment, and if it runs out of water it'll bite people. my 6 year old daughter is scared to death of it.
