What does it mean when it says "formula units"? (Chemistry Context)?

For example, a question asks "How many formula units of BaNO4 are contained in 236 g?".

Formula units denotes the no. of moles of a compound present in a said amount. For finding "formula units" formula mass of compound is calculated.

Here, formula mass(BaNO4) = 137+14+...
~ Formula unit(BaNO4) = 236/(Formula mass).
